Family Travel Bargains Are Just A Mouse Click Away

In addition to being difficult, planning the family vacation can be expensive. Fortunately for us we can use the internet to make planning a lot easier. Spending a few hours online can save you hundreds of dollars on your next trip as well as give you tips to make your trip even more fun.

Once thought of as a vacation for couples, cruises are fast becoming a family favorite. Today?s cruise lines know that if they can plan fun activities for the children mom and dad will have fun too. The first place to start your search should be to go directly to the cruise lines themselves.

A quick search on your favorite each engine, like Yahoo or Google will reveal all the top cruise lines in seconds. Many of the cruise lines offer special last minute specials that you may be the perfect family vacation and save you a bundle. While on these websites, check for package deals. Many cruise lines like to partner with the airlines to provide ?one stop shopping? for their customers. These may not always be the best deals but in a few clicks of a mouse, your vacation can be booked.

One of my family?s favorite vacation spots is sunny Florida. The big theme parks like to put together package deals to make planning your trip easier. Most of these package deals will include everything from airfare, tickets to the park, rental cars and even free parking at the park. Because Florida is such a big hit with families, hotels often offer ?kids eat for free? deals. This can be a huge savings for a family of four. The hotels that offer these discounts are generally the ones that are kid friendly and offer activities to keep the kids busy when not at the parks.

Getting there can be one of the biggest expenses of your trip so check to see if the airlines are offering any specials to your destination. You may find a buy one ticket get another for half price deal or some offer special rates for kids under a certain age. If you?re shopping for the best airfare at ?the right time? you may even stumble onto a fantastic deal that an airline is offering to fill up seats on specific flights. These are generally deals that are offered for a very limited time, so have your credit card ready when you search.

Airlines and travel agencies will often feature promotional periods where they will take care of everything for your entire family for one price. These promotions are usually offered just once or twice a year to create a buzz for their business. If your timing is right you can take advantage of one of these deals. Ask around to see when and if your airline or travel agent offers these.

If you?re not sure where you want to go or how much you should budget for your family vacation, get online and start searching. There are deals online that can not be offered elsewhere, with a little luck and great timing, you can plan the perfect family vacation without breaking the bank!

Brooklyn Bridge

This is probably the biggest and oldest infrastructure project in bridge construction that is still in use, and it wonders us that our small hands can do such a miracle when guided by the mighty mind. The project was gigantic and so was its construction. It was a battle of engineering science with nature that took lives of many during the construction, and the first one to sacrifice was the creator himself.

Any person who has sentiments, cannot cross this bridge in continuation, the grandeur and beauty compels him to stop and glance at it for a while.

Managing your Money on your Round the World Trip

Getting to grips with your money when travelling will make a big difference to the kind of trip you have and how long you can afford to stay away.

In most countries, you will be pleasantly surprised at how much cheaper things are than at home. Beware though - some countries are so cheap they lull you into a sense of feeling so well off that you stop bothering to budget at all and end up spending more than you would than at home !

Depending on the style of trip you are on, you can also manage your money more easily if you book and pay for things before you go like, accommodation, and bus passes. This can even apply if you don't know when you will be in each place as they can be booked on an 'open dated' basis.

Here are some issues to consider:

Online banking

An online banking facility is a great way to keep up to date with your account on home shores. You can check your balance, see what's coming in and going out, and transfer money if you need to.

Bill payments whilst you're away

Unfortunately, bills don't have any respect for the fact you're taking a break and travelling the world. If things need to be paid whilst you're out of the country, try to organise direct debits before you leave.

Cash

A small selection of $1, $5 and $10 US dollar bills will always be handy as emergency money anywhere in the world. Especially handy if you run out of local currency, can't find an ATM, on public holidays etc. It is also advisable to arrive at your destination with some local currency - this will reduce airport stress levels!

If you haven't organised this or are going to a country such as India or Tanzania or Cuba, where money can't be obtained outside their borders, don't worry, there will almost always be a bank or bureau de change open on arrival. If not or if you can't face joining in the scrum, you always have your emergency $ bills.

Don't keep all of your cash in one place. In most developing countries pulling £100 worth of local currency out of your pocket to peel off a couple of small notes to pay for a taxi or a drink will make you stick and out like a sore thumb and attract the wrong kind of attention.

When you are changing money, especially in developing countries, make sure you don't get it all in big notes, as when paying for little things in the local economy, people simply will not have change for big notes. When you're in a different country, you might find that the rules are different e.g. in India or Tanzania it is illegal to take their currency out of the country or purchase foreign currency.

A final piece of advice re cash: keep it in good nick. In lot of developing countries, notes that are torn (whether local or $US) are considered worthless. This unwritten rule forms the basis for endless entertainment in places like India, where everyone tries to play the game of off-load their torn notes onto each other.

Traveller's cheques

These may be antiquated, but are still probably the safest way of taking money abroad as the key feature of travellers cheques is that if you lose them, they can be replaced. We would advise that unless you are a particularly scrupulous at keeping records, don't take lots of denominations. If you are unlucky enough to lose them, you will need to confirm each cheque number to get them replaced. If you all of your cheques are for the same amount, it will be much easier to keep track of which ones you have cashed and which ones have been lost than if you take out a selection of 10 's 20's 50's and 100's.

Travellers cheques can be purchased on-line here and delivered to your home address the next day or a day you specify:

Contrary to popular belief, unless you will be travelling in the USA there is usually no need to take travellers cheques in US $. £ Cheques are accepted pretty much everywhere. The reason you should avoid changing your money into $'s is down to the dodgy exchange rates that will be used - i.e. you will lose around 5 % of your money each time you change it.

Credit cards and debit cards

These handy little things a very convenient way to get hold of money whilst travelling. The good news with these is that the exchange rate that credit card companies use is usually slightly better than with cash. The bad news is that there are handling fees of approximately 3% on transactions - not to mention the really bad news if you don't pay your monthly credit card bill…

The transaction fee on debit card transactions will be lower, but the rate of exchange is often not as favourable as the one used for credit card transactions. You also of course need to have sufficient money in your current account.

You should also be extra careful when using cards when travelling and ensure that all transactions are done in your presence.

These days you can find ATM machines even in quite obscure places.

Currency exchanges

It's always worth shopping around wherever you are, as the exchange rate can vary as widely as the commissions you pay. If you have to change money at a big hotel, try not to change too much as rates here will always be way less favourable than at a bank.

In some destinations you might be offered currency exchange by touts. The rates are usually no better than doing things the legal way, so we'd advise you to stay well clear. Finding tourists to accompany them to a discreet place where they will get all of their cash out, is at best an opportunity for criminals to off load some counterfeit cash and is at worst a golden opportunity for them to mug you.

You should of course also make sure that you are aware of who is hanging around / watching you when you are changing money or at ATM machines, and get your cash tucked away out of sight as soon as possible!

Money wires

With money wires you can send money to another part of the world in a matter of minutes. It can be an expensive process though, so we'd say it's only worth it in an emergency case. and finally…try to leave a bit of cash at home for when you return. Coming back home after a big round the world trip is never an easy experience, but being able to buy a round of drinks will soften the landing

Niagara Falls

The first written description of Niagara Falls was given in 1683 by Father Louis Hennepin, a Recollect priest from the Spanish Netherlands. His account described

Helsinki: Technologically Modern

With the presence of headquarters of some globally recognized brand, Helsinki is regarded as the economical capital of Scandinavia. Nokia and Laponia Jewelry are the two world businesses that have strengthened the socioeconomic status of this region. Located on the south east coast of Finland, it was a small fishing in the beginning. However, today's Helsinki developed under the Russian rule with the contribution of great architect Carl Engel from Germany. He redesigned the entire Helsinki to give it a modern look.

Helsinki has been a tourist's favorites for a long time. Travelers from Germany, Sweden, Japan and USA visit this beautiful place quite frequently. With a lively nightlife, this city receives accolades from the tourists from all across the globe. Some of the world famed bars like The Ice Bar and DTM thriving quite well over here. One most exciting aspect of this place is shopping at Stockman that features wide range of technological articles which you can buy at affordable rates. And of course, visiting historical monuments is another fantastic experience to have.

The climate of this city is usually milder. Hotels in Helsinki have all sorts of modern amenities to comfort the guests.

German Gift - Make The Right Decision

The right German gift is often something different than a flower or a bottle of wine. Read on to find out…

The most given German gifts are flowers for women an a bottle of wine for men. But you could do better.

A bottle of wine, unless it is 50 years old, will be drunk at one of the next evenings. And the flowers a woman gets are withered in a couple of days.

Here is what I would do instead. And that will fascinate both, women and men.

==> Bring something with you that is from your country or represents the culture of your home in particular.

Now back to the flowers and the wine bottle.

If these flowers are so unique and last for a long time, means that it is a plant, than it is a good German gift. And if the wine is a few decades old so that your recipient won't empty that bottle unless you come back and you both celebrate a big deal (or something else extraordinary), that bottle will get the best place in his house, and he will show every guest this German gift he got from his friend. He even will remember the day and the reason he got it for.

And this is my point here. Your friend, whom you give that gift, has to feel special that it brings tears in her/his eyes. Your gift has to be so unique that your friend makes everything possible to get a special place in her/his house for that German gift.

A friend of mine from South-Africa, when she visited me the other day, she brought a brown South-African tribal mask, which looks pretty scaring and amusing at the same time.

She brought it for my mom, and it has still its unique place in her home. Everybody who hasn't seen it before ask her what it is and from whom she got such a unique, historical and picturesque gift. Some even asked if she bought it on an auction (no, not ebay, a place such as "Christies") and how much my mother paid for it.

The point is not how much it costs. The South-African mask does not cost very much, even for them. The point is the feelings you will tap by giving this.

So now I have a short checklist for you to focus on.

Travel Insurance, Tips, Advice & Resources For Seniors

RIDDLE! What is it? They spend thousands encouraging us to buy it. We are advised never to go on holiday without it. But when we want to buy it, they don't want to sell it to us.
Read on ………..

So after much deliberation we have chosen the holiday destination, sorted out the flights, and already we are picturing ourselves languishing on warm sands with the inviting blue sea stretching before us, and we just have the minor formality of the holiday travel insurance and then all the arrangements will be complete. Did I say MINOR? Well, yes, holiday insurance was once just a minor formality, but now for retired folk or senior citizens it has become a MAJOR, MAJOR problem. (In fact, when talking to friends it appears that holiday insurance has replaced house prices as the after dinner discussion). The problem is not just about how health affects the cost of insurance but it's about how age affects the cost of insurance. Isn't it amazing how an insurance company can take your annual holiday insurance payments for years, you have never made a claim, and suddenly because you have just passed a certain birthday you are too risky to consider. Your medical history may be fine, in fact you may be fitter than the 30 year old couch potato on the end of the telephone, but that doesn't count - the only thing that counts is the date on your birth certificate. And when you do find an insurance company who will cover you, you find that the premium costs more than the holiday.

However, one thing is certain, WE MUST HAVE HOLIDAY TRAVEL INSURANCE (you realize how essential it is when you consider that an air ambulance from the USA will set you back approx £35,000), and another important point is to be honest when declaring your medical history, because Insurance Companies are not charities and will possibly look into your medical history hoping to find some information (however slight you may have considered it at the time it was recorded) to avoid paying for example that air ambulance cost from the USA.

A timely reminder that the E111 was discontinued on 31 December 05 and was replaced by the EHIC (the European Health Insurance Card), which you can obtain from the Post Office or www.dh.gov.uk. It is useful to take this, but it is definitely not a substitute for personal holiday insurance.

And whilst on the subject of European holidays; a couple of years back we met a group of Spanish pensioners having a great time on the Costa del Sol. We found out why it was such a joyous occasion, it came courtesy of the Spanish Government - the Government treats senior citizens to a week's free holiday. On reflection, it could possibly work out cheaper for the National Health if our senior citizens were sent to warmer climes during the winter when bronchitis and respiratory problems abound. Mr Brown, it's food for thought. After all, he informs us that in 2008 we shall be receiving free bus travel throughout the country, so perhaps we can but dream that the boundaries be extended somewhat. However, there is still the problem of the necessary holiday travel insurance.

A recent survey found that 9 out of 10 annual travel policies impose an upper age limit. It is slightly easier to obtain single trip policies: but this can work out expensive is you plan to take more than a couple of holidays a year. Here are a few worth contacting, but do shop around as prices vary enormously ?
